Officers mentioned they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.

An important representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
